today in class you weren't here so we had a sub. in class I went to your blog and saw that we wont have a test before exams which is a relief because I wont have to study for the test and then study for everything else that is on the exam. in class I looked at my notes in my note book that I have taken this tear and made it into a quizlet. I feel pretty good about the human geo exam because I understand everything that we have gone over so far in this class. this class was pretty helpful because it helped me get organized and prepared to study for my mid term exam for this class.
today in class we went over the poop quiz and I got a 70 on it which is ok but I think I could have done better. then we talked about a test we will take next week and it sounds pretty easy because it only multiple choice and its about everything we have learned recently and I understand it all. also I am nervous for exams but I think that the human geo one will be ok because we are getting a review about everything and we are getting the exact essays that are on it so I think I will be good for that one.
today we walked in class and had a pop quiz. the quiz was pretty easy and I got to wrong because I mixed the x and y axis's up on what they are showing. the x axis is the wealth and y axis is the life expectancy and I wrote it backwards. I also learned about what the stages mean on the graph. in stage 1 the birth rate is high, the death rate is high, and the natural increase is stable. in stage 2 the birth rate is high, death rate is falling rapidly, and natural increase is very rapidly increasing. in stage 3 the birth rate is falling, death rate is falling slowly, and natural increase is stable or is increasing slowly. in stage 4 the birth rate is low, the death rate is low, and natural increase is stable or slowly increasing. in the last stage, stage 5 the birth rate is very low, death rate is low, and natural increase is stable or slowly decreasing. the countries go through these stages as their industrialization increases.
today in class we watched a video about global health. we learned that the world used to have a very low income and life expectancy. the life expectancy is the x-axis and it goes from 25-75 years. the y-axis is the income and it starts at 400-40,0000.400 means they at sick and poor. 40,000 means they are rich and healthy. the life expectancy in 1810 was under 40 yrs. in every country besides U.K. and Netherlands. when a countries industrialization increases so does the life expectancy and income.in 1948 the graph was as wide spread as it has ever been and there is countries that there life expectancy is over 75 and has an income average of 40,000 and there is some areas that have a life expectancy just over 25 and the only make 400 dollars of income. I liked watching the video because it helped me understand the graph a lot more and understand what we where talking about a lot more.
today in class we watched a video that was about population pyramids. I liked watching the video I think it was easier to take notes on. I learned about demographic transition. which has to do with population. we learned that in pre-industrial areas the life expectancy is going up and the child mortality is lowering. also in industrial areas the child mortality lowers and most people move from rural areas to urban areas to be closer to the factories that they work at. lastly we learned about post-industrial areas and that both there birth and death rate lower because the are more stable and there births ad deaths almost even out.  We also learned about things that can effect the population pyramid. one thing is war it effects the pyramid by there being more women then men in a age period because men usual go to war and not women and it effects the amount of elderly over time because a lot of people could have died during the war, the birth rate usual goes up after because its usually a
today in class we went over how we could get extra credit points. we can get points by looking at the website and doing a blog about it and if we make a loan we get five more bonus points and if our class has the most people that donate then we get five more points. on the website Kiva you can select a category that you are interested in donating to and you look at the people that at on it and you pick one that interest you and you can learn more about it. I liked this one women from Africa that wanted money so she could get more chickens and increase the size of her farm. she also wanted a stable income because she is trying to raise two kids on her own. I think that this is a good cause to loan 25 dollars too and it would feel good to give someone that needs money at the moment some help.when she is just trying to increase the size of her small local farm.
today I was late for class because I went to guidance with a friend who was having personal problems. in class we took a test and it was pretty easy I thought. I studied a little for the test but I should have studied the definition a little more. also I liked how we did some of the test using our laptops and got to search the facts about the countries on the CIA website. also I thought it was a good and easy test. I thought it was going to be way harder so I feel pretty confident about my test.
today in class the last people presented their projects. it was a pretty fun class. the projects where done well and I liked when they where done as PowerPoints because they where more interesting and I paid attention to them more than when they where just regular word documents. also I liked most of the projects because they where informational and they where done really well. also I liked that you told us what is going to be on the test on Monday and we went over the questions so we know what the answers are and we know what we need to study before the test. also I thought that it was good you gave Dylan a behavior thing because its disrespectful to be playing games during class and its not cool to do that. I don't think he will be playing games on his laptop anymore during school
today was a fun class. we continued to share our projects. I don't think any groups where really prepared to present our projects. I think this because everyone just read right off there paper and when we where asked questions we froze up and didn't know enough about our sites or countries to answer any questions. next time we do this I think we should all do more research and be more prepared of what where going to say and really get to know the sites we looked at and are comparing. I like doing group projects though because in my group the work was done evenly and you do better when you have more heads to think with.
today was a pretty easy class. In class we had to present our projects and take notes on important things. I was not prepared to present my project because I didn't know we had to present them. I also forgot to post a blog with my project link in it. when we presented our project I think we did good on it.good enough to get an A. when we presented I just went with it and just thought of things to say while we where going and I think me and my group did good with that and though of good and helpful things to say so that people understood our power point. also I think this project was good because we got to compare area population pyramids to one another which helps us understand the countries more. also I liked having to find websites and look at websites that help raise awareness of world hunger. I like this because we learn more about it and ways we can donate and help people who need food.
today in class we started by having a evacuation drill that took awhile to do. then we got back in class and we took a pop quiz. I don't like pop quizzes they make me nervous and I'm never prepared for them. also they shouldn't be allowed to do that because they don't seem right and most of the time people do bad on them and then they hurt your grade. I did okay on the pop quiz I think. I liked the way we did it though by having the questions on the board and then giving us 10 seconds to answer it. I liked it because I didn't have to worry about going back and second guessing my answers and just putting them down. also I kind of didn't like it cause I didn't have time to really think and I was rushed and just put down random answers. class was fun but the pop quiz stressed me out a lot.
today in class we continued to learn about population pyramids. I learned about how you can learn things about an area by the pyramids shape and why some ages have more people than others. for example you can tell when there is a military town because there is a large population of young men. also you can tell when it is a college town because there is a large number of boys and girls in there early twenties. I also learned that in japan and countries where the old population it much larger than the new that they are going to have a lot of problems later because there population is going to decrease a lot and there not going to have enough young people to do jobs that are needed. then we went on a website and I liked it a lot. it showed you the triangles for countries. it helped because it told you the amount of people in age and helped you compare different ages. also you could look at what they predicted it would look like in later years. I liked this because you could see how areas
today in class we started by talking about Mr. Schicks job as a movie producer. I learned that he worked on the movie home alone. I also learned about population pyramids. I learned that there are 3 types. the first type is the Christmas tree. it is of developing countries where there is more babies being born than old people and the population is increasing. the second is the box. this is in developed countries. it means that there is a constant number of babies as there is of older people. the last kind is the cup. it is of developed countries. it means that there is more old people than babies being born. so the population of the country is going down. this causes problems because there isn't enough people to do jobs because old people cant do a lot of jobs.
today in class we started by getting our test back. in did good on mine I got a B. which is good but I should have studied a little more. Then we talked a little about exams and how we should study the test we have because the same questions will be on the exam we take and the exam is worth 20% of our grade. Then we went back to our notes. We learned about why people migrate. I learned that some push factors are. civil war, environmental degradation, unemployment or underemployment, religious or ethnic persecution. All these are examples why someone would want to leave a country and live somewhere else. We also learned about reasons why a person would be pulled toward another country. These reasons are, better economic opportunity, better health services, religious freedom, political freedom. these are all reasons why a person would be drawn toward an area.
today in class we continued to learn about population and settlement. we learned about life expectancy. life expectancy means the average number of years believed by a group of people born in the same year. some examples are, the highest is in Monaco, 89.52 total- 85.63 men and 95.58 women. U.S. #42 79.68 total- 77.32 men and 81.97 women. lowest Chad 49.81 total- 48.64 men and 51.03 women. we also learned about crude birth rate, which means the number of births per 1,000 of the population. Also we learned about the crude death rate, which means the number of deaths per 1,000 of the population. we learned about rate of natural increase which is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. this gives us the annual natural growth rate in percentage form-for a country or region. the net migration rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year. an excess of persons entering the country is net immigration. this is written as a
today in class we took our unit test. I think I did good on the test because I knew most of the questions and knew there answers. Last night I also studied a lot so I would be prepared for the test today. some of the questions I had trouble on but for the most part I think I did good. also I likes that we got to choose the essay question we wanted to do. I liked this because you could choose the one you thought you could do best on so you can get a good grade. I also like how the day before we come up with questions and that he let us take picture of the questions so we know what we need to study an we have time to discus them and learn them if we forgot about them.
today in class we all came up with questions that could be on the test. One question was why do US companies make their products over seas? I believe they make them over seas because there isn't minimum wages and you can pay a person way less than you have to in the US. Another question was Peter vs. Mercator map. the difference is the peter map is more accurate in the real size of all the areas then the Mercator map. Also they asked about the saying think global act local. this can be a good and helpful thing if everyone does it and an example might be you grow your own vegetables so you don't have to drive to the store and have the gas go into the air. we also talked about time zones. time zones are important so you know what's going on and the time of day in a new area you go. your circadian cycle is your biological sleeping schedule. there are 27 time zones around the world. what 3 countries have the largest population. they are China, India, and US. the prime meridian
I was late for school today so I missed class.
today in class we started by meeting the shadows. Then we talked about why he missed class yesterday. He missed class because his dog was sick and he had to put him down. I liked how he made his dogs last day a really good and fun. Then he showed us  pictures of her and she was so cute. While we where talking about this it was so cute and made me cry. Then we all started talking about our dogs and some sad dog stories. Then we started talking about businesses and I learned about how a kid in our class his dad owns a company that does window candles that are built into the wall so there isn't any wires. we talked about how his business is over seas.
today we had a sub, so we did work on our laptops. We took notes on the information on the blog. I learned that contemporary geographers offer a different version of the phrase "think and act both global and local". I also learned all scales from local to global are important in geography. Contemporary geography matters because it can explain human actions at all scales. At national and international scales, geography is concerned with rapid population growth. Lastly I learned about Globalization. One definition of globalization is extending to other or all parts of the world. Another definition is worldwide integration and development.
today in class we learned  how doing things locally can help globally. For example you can grow our own food and be helping the world because your not using any gas that pollutes the air, that is being used hen you drive to the grocery store. Also we learned that at the global scale, encompassing the entire world, geographers tend to see broad patterns. We learned that geography matters in the contemporary world because it can explain human action at all scales. Lastly I learned that in rural areas they tend to vote republican and democratic in urban areas.
Today in class we walked in and got surprised with a pop quiz. The quiz was pretty easy but I didn't remember all of it. But for the most part I think I  did good on the quiz. After the quiz we looked at the CIA website that gave us a lot of in formation about the countries around the world. Then we looked at the top 25 countries around the world and we labeled them on the map. It is important to know where these countries are because it is important to know about the important countries in the world and where they are located.

time

Today in class I learned and thought about many new things. In class we talked about time and how it is different all over the world and just across different states in the U.S. Also I learned what a circadian cycle is. It is the pattern of you waking up and going to sleep on a schedule based on the time it is. We also talked about Fleming who was wanted to have everyone have the same time all over the world in 1879. He wanted the clock to be at the center of the Earth. It would be a global 24hr clock and everyone would be on the same clock. Lastly around the 1900 all the time on Earth was in the form of standard time zone. No matter where you were you knew the zone and the time it was supposed to be. I learned a lot about time in class today.
Yesterday I missed class because I was sick. Today in class I got caught up on what we where doing yesterday. We where learning about the parties the states vote for. Also we learned about the regions of the U.S. and how they vote. This helps us understand the regions and the way the elections work. Also I learned that if you have the most electoral votes than you will win the election, even if you don't have the most single person votes. The region of the U.S. can also tell us more independent states like Texas where they have there own region. From the regions like New England where there made up of many states. Whether a region votes Democratic or Republic can tell you alloy about it. Also a state most of the area vote for one party, But there is a bog city that votes the other party so the other party wins. So not the majority of the area might not get what they want.

situation

today in class we finished going over site. I learned that site characteristics are important. For example its important if there is mountains if you want to build a house because you will want the ground to be level if your building homes. Also I learned that people can change the site. For example you can fill a river with land and other things and make more land so you can build more things and develop new land. Lastly we learned that areas are being built on so much that they are flooding because there isn't enough grass and enough drainage for the water to go when it rains a lot or there is a hurricane. Next we learned about situation. Situation means the location of a place relative to other places. Situation helps us find an unfamiliar place by comparing its location with a familiar one. For example a lot of people have been to Florida and they know that it is really hot and then it rains for about an hour and then stops , but not a lot of people have been too Mississippi bu
today we went over the test we took a while ago. also we started to learn about mental maps. questions that have to do with this are how do you describe where things are? and how do you describe your daily routine? also we learned that a mental map is a persons point of view perception of their area of interaction, most commonly called your activity space.
today in class we had time to do our hw and get caught up on test. we did this so Mr. Schick could get caught up on his grading because he has 3 classes and many students.in class I did my biology hw and I wrote my blog. also I looked over my math notes so I can do good on my test. also I think I did good on my test and that many of the other kids in my class did too. also I finished my Spanish hw and started to study for the quiz we have tomorrow. I liked having kind of a quiet free period to get caught up on all the work I need to do and the hw I forgot about this weekend. when you get a free quiet class you should definitely use it to get your work done and study for the quizzes/test you have that day.
in class today we started to learn about world regions. we leaned that regions are highly contested yet important concept in the study of human geography and can be studied as they relate to space, place , and location. regions allow us to generalize about common characteristics so we can better group them. a formal region is an area with high level of consistency in a certain cultural or physical attribute. also uniform or homogeneous areas where everyone in that region shares common attributes or traits like language , climate , or political system. formal regions are primarily used to determine and outline political , cultural , and economic regions. lastly we started to label the regions on a map. we learned important questions that we will learn to answer. how do geographers describe where tings are? why is each point on Earth unique? why are different places similar? why are some actions unsustainable?
today in class we took a test about excellence, Greeks, and a message to Garcia. before we took the test I wish I would have looked at the message to Garcia vocabulary more because I had trouble on those questions. I was very confident on the rest of the questions. also I couldn't remember how to spell what Socrates was put to death with. I liked how one of the essay questions was about my opinion Socrates. I was confident also on the questions about Socrates and his trial and what the Socratic method is. Socrates was a very good person who believed strongly in what he did for a living and died for it. if I was in his position I would have said what ever I needed to not to be killed. I liked how we went over the questions we thought where going to be on the quiz and that we thought should be on the quiz. it helped a lot with what I needed to study and it made me feel good about taking the test because , I knew what was going to be on it so I was very prepared besides a couple of vo
today in class we went over questions that are going to be on our quiz. we went over that the quiz was going to be on excellence and Socrates and the message to Garcia. also I learned what synergy is and it is when one things feeds in to another thing and in this case its democracy and excellence. also we went over the message to Garcia. it takes place during the Spanish American war. Garcia is a revolutionary seeking Cuban independence from Spain. rowan is an army officer. McKinley was the president of the time an was assassinated by an anarchist and then MT. Denali was renamed after him. also we talked about the vocab we will need. perihelion is the point when a planet (like mars) is the closest to the sun and therefore at its brightest. also slip shed means a careless person and imbecility means incapable. stenographer a person who takes dictation in shorthand. missive means a letter usually a big one. message means doing the right thing without being asked.
in class on Friday we reviewed Socrates. we went over what he was accused of that got him sentenced to death. he was accused of corrupting the minds of the youth and of not believing in the Greek gods. also we learned about the quote "the unexamined life is not worth living." this quote means that we where giving the minds that think  beyond and ask why and we should use it and think about things and not just live a normal boring life where you don't think of the why of things. also we talked about the hurricanes and how they are going to effect lives and how the government should deal with it. also about how Houston is getting kind of over looked now because another hurricane is coming at Florida. also there was a very big earthquake that is believed is going to cause  a tsunami.
today in class we learned important words and events that happened. that are important to the Greeks. one of those words is agora which is a public open space used for assemblies markets, and center of  spiritual and political practices. another word is polis which is a city in ancient Greece, especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes and run by citizens. I learned that in 508 BC Kilisthenis came to power, he placed the foundation of Athens democracy. I also learned about Socrates. I learned that he was a great philosopher and Greek philosophy was developed by him. Socrates later went on trial for corrupting Athens youth and was found guilty and sentenced to death. Socrates also has a method called the Socratic method which was the arriving of truth by continually questioning ,obtaining answers, and criticizing the answers.  lastly in 508 BC it was the first time in recorded history that people revolted against their rulers. this lead to many other revolts.
In class we talked about the story a message to Garcia. I learned that it was published in 1899 and sold 40 million copies.it was so popular they made it into a movie twice. the setting is during the Spanish American war. I also learned about the characters involved in the story. Garcia is a revolutionary seeking Cuban independence from Spain. Rowan is an army officer. McKinley is the president William McKinley the 25th president and was assassinated by an anarchist. I also learned about words I didn't know that where in the story. Perihelion is the point when a planet is closest to the sun, and therefore at its brightest. Slipshed means careless ,lackadaisical, slapdash, remiss. Imbecility means incability, feebleness, stupidity. Stenographer means a person who takes dictation in short hand. Missive means a letter, especially a longer official one. Message is doing the right thing without being asked. Lastly, I learned about the word arenta which means excellence of any kind, mora
in this story it shows that people want workers that will get things done without asking questions.Workers are not desired that ask questions and don't do what there ask and then the boss has to do it.also workers that do what there asked and work hard don't have to go on strike for higher pay there already paid well because there work doesn't want to lose them because they are needed .now half hearted work is very common and men threaten and beg for another mans assistance in there work .now bosses just smile and ignore when the workers cant do what there asked and then have to find the time there selves to find it. workers aren't as reliable to get things done because they don't do it right when there asked so they get distracted and cant remember exactly what they where asked to do .also it says that the men running the building are often frown on when they fire people  .but most of the time there not doing there work and there incapable and that's the reason
today in class we started by helping people who had trouble doing there blog. Then we went over the class syllabus. from going over the syllabus I learned that I should have an opinion but listen to others and not label what people are like by there opinions. Also I learned how things are graded and how they are counted.in class I learned that human geo is important because it isn't just about the land but how the land effects people and there lives. Which is important to learn. I learned what I should do if I miss class and where to find him most of the time and what times he is available. Also I learned that we will do pop quizzes and we will do open blog test so I should take good notes and write them in my blog after class. I learned a lot in class today about how the class is going to work.
my first day at school was good. I had a lot of fun meeting teachers and new friends. I was nervous for high school at first but then we had kick start and orientation and I felt good about starting school. I like high school a lot more than I liked middle school. Everyone I have met has been really nice.at first I thought the upper class men where going to be mean and not like me, but they are nice and helpful. I am also now friends with some upper class men. I also started field hockey and its a lot of fun. The coach is really good and I have met some new people I am now close with. I also like how we have an advisory so we can meet some upper class men and become close with them and have a teacher you can be close with. Also I like that I get to take a language al year so I can be good at it. so far high school has been a good experience.
